2022 was all about seeking balance. I am a firm believer that you will rarely – if ever – become great at something by approaching it from a balanced perspective. The “greats” of <insert anything here> work tirelessly at it, they obsess over it, they think about it constantly, the lose sleep over it! That’s how you become great at something - but that’s not how you stay great at something.
This was a year of pulling back a bit, of regrouping, of resting. I still put out podcasts but built in several breaks along the way, focusing on building in a bit of sustainability into my podcast madness.
In 2022 you’ll find some great rant episodes and many great interviews – here are a handful of guests to get you started:
- Josh Bryant & Steve Harvey – December 22, 2022 – This was a BLAST!
- Andrea Baker, Bob Edwards, & Matt Florio - November 7, 2022
- Teresa Swinton - September 12, 2022
- Rob Kirkwood - September 5, 2022
This was the year of pulling together my thoughts, of “thinking out loud,” of exploring ideas and concepts, and of just putting it out there. It was also an anti-interview year.
Looking back, this was a year of reflection and growth, of solitude and work, and a year of many, many non-podcast conversations with peers and friends. You’ll still find more than a couple great interviews – here’s a couple to start with:
- Brent Charlton - April 5, 2021
- Teresa Swinton - March 29, 2021
2020 was the year of the interview and the year of figuring it out! 45 guests joined us on the podcast in 2020 and we had some amazing and insightful conversations. There are so many great interviews that it's hard to give much of a "must listen" list, but if you’re looking for a place to start:
- Todd Conklin - August 3, 2020
- Josh Bryant - February 24, 2020
- Steve Harvey & Tony McConachie - May 8 & 11, 2020
- Clive Lloyd - September 14, 2020
- Andrea Baker - November 23, 2020
- Ian Allison on March 9 & 16, 2020
I was still figuring out this whole podcasting and interviewing thing – heck, I still am – but we had fun and interesting conversations along the way.
My favorite part of 2020? The friendships that I gained - guests and listeners that I had the opportunity to meet through the podcast that quickly grew into life-long friends. There are far too many to name here, but guests like Josh Bryant, Steve Harvey, Tony McConachie, and Clive Lloyd just to name a few – All people that are doing great work for the right reasons and that I admire and appreciate deeply.
2019 was the year of giving it a shot. Really, it was the year of building up the courage to give it a shot. It was all about getting over my “pod-fright,” getting those first episodes out there, and not stopping. I’m so glad I took that leap into the unknown.
Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. To those of you that have followed along from the very beginning, to those that have recently joined us, and to everyone in between – you are the best part of this whole thing.
I’m going to keep marching forward! “The HOP Nerd” has grown into more than a podcast – I am out nearly every week helping organizations with their Human & Organizational Performance and improvement journeys – things have certainly gotten far more busy and far more complex over the last several years. But the podcast will persist!
I’m still shooting for a rough average of one episode per week. Will that always happen? Nope. But it will happen more often than not!
I am also bringing in guests in the near future for some episodes! Want to be on the show or know of someone who does? Send me an email at thehopnerd@gmail.com and let me know what we should talk about.
