If you've spent any time learning about Human & Organizational Performance (HOP), you've likely had this moment... You've read the articles, maybe attended a workshop, nodded along to the core principles... and then thought, "Okay, I get it... What Now?"
How do you take these powerful ideas and actually do something with them back in the real world, within the messy complexities of your organization? How do you move from understanding concepts like "Error is Normal" or "Blame Fixes Nothing" to truly operationalizing them?
That gap between theory and practice is exactly what my new podcast mini-series on The HOP Nerd Podcast is designed to tackle. It's called "...What Now?" - and it's all about action.
Introducing the "What Now?" Mini-Series
Over the coming weeks and months, the "...What Now?" series will break down key HOP principles, one episode at a time. But instead of just rehashing the definitions, each episode will focus squarely on the practical steps, tangible actions, and operational shifts you can make to bring these ideas to life in your workplace.
We're kicking things off with foundational principles:
Episode 1: Error is Normal... What Now?
Episode 2: Blame Fixes Nothing... What Now?
Episode 3: Context Drives Behavior... What Now?
Episode 4: Learning is Vital... What Now?
Episode 5: How We Respond Matter... What Now?
And beyond!
Why This Focus? It's What I Do.
This intense focus on practical application isn't accidental. It stems directly from the core of all the work I do. Whether I'm consulting, teaching, writing, or creating content, my driving passion is helping organizations bridge the gap between knowing HOP principles and living them - from talking about doing thing differently, to actually doing thing differently. I spend my days with organizations working on exactly this... the "what now questions."
This hands-on approach is central to everything, from the strategies I develop with clients, to the insights shared in my books, to the comedic sketches that (hopefully) make us laugh while exposing flawed systems. It’s all geared towards answering the question: "how do we do this in real-life?"
The "What Now?" mini-series is a natural extension of this – distilling practical, actionable advice into focused episodes for anyone ready to make HOP a reality, not just a theory.
